JOIN US, PLAY DERBY!
May 30, 2025
Want to join and build a great team with us?
Drop in among us and we'll introduce you to the world of Roller Derby, a cohesive and accepting international community where anyone can be a cool player! Or a referee!
We have a position for everyone!
You don't need roller-skating skills, we'll teach you. If you don't have skates, we'll lend you one if we can.
We are looking for players and referees (both skaters and non-skaters), both boys and girls over 18, from 16 with parental permission.
Before you invest in a skate, check this article out on our blog...
If you already have skates but you can't roll well, don't lose heart. Read this article from Erika, and come down to learn with us.
By the way, come down and join us for a training session, for example on Tuesday at six on Daru domb. We're usually there unless it's raining or freezing. Then feel free to drop us a message or give us a ring first. Maybe send a letter to the coach to coach [at] budapestrollerderby .hu .
What we expect from the skaters: skill, perseverance, willingness to fight, commitment, patience and tolerance. The rest will come naturally.
Why skate regularly?
Improves coordination of movements, makes you more confident, reduces tension, maintains the body.
Not to mention it gives you a little "me time", which is great for getting out of the daily grind.
When you play derby, you learn to move and think as a team, to attack and defend, to survive any situation. In skates. Also.
About the game in brief
Flat Track Roller Derby is played on a flat, oval-shaped track.
The match consists of two 30-minute halves, with rounds within each half called "Jam". Each round lasts up to 2 minutes. There is a 30 second break between rounds.
Each team will field 5 players for a round. Four of these will be defenders, "blockers", and one will be a scorer, "Jammer". The defenders together are called a "Pack". The scorer wears a helmet with a star on it.
The two scorers start each round behind the pack and score points after the opponent's defenders have been beaten each round. Since they start behind the pack, they must first get through the pack and go around the court to score points.
Roller derby is a full-contact sport. However, players are not allowed to use their head, elbows or forearms, hands, knees, ankles and feet to attack. Players are not allowed to attack the opponent's head, back, knees, feet or legs.
A player who plays in a dangerous or illegal manner may receive a 30-second game time penalty, which is assessed on the penalty bench shall be seated. The penalty is measured continuously throughout the rounds until it is used up. The length of the break between rounds does not reduce the penalty time.
The team with the most points wins the match.
And the same in some videos...
Don't be shy, come and roll!
